This shock-absorbing pin box provides a smooth, safe ride while you tow your fifth-wheel trailer. The all-in-1 box has no air bags to refill or small parts to replace. 4.5K Pin weight.

Features:

  • 5th-Wheel king pin box upgrades the existing pin box on your 5th-wheel trailer
    • King pin inserts into your truck's 5th-wheel hitch
  • Shock-absorbing design ensures a smooth, steady ride
    • Technology functions like a torsion axle to limit transfer of road shock from trailer to truck and vice versa
      • Reduces chucking and rough fore-and-aft motion
      • Limits bounce and jarring up-and-down motion
    • No airbags to maintain and fewer moving parts to repair or replace than with other shock-absorbing solutions
  • Heavy-duty steel construction
  • Powder coat finish resists wear and corrosion
  • Simple, bolt-on installation
    • Mounts with existing bolts
  • Made in the USA

Specs:

  • Designed to replace Lippert 1621 or 1621 HD 5th-wheel pin boxes
  • Towing capacity: 30,000 lbs
  • Pin weight capacity range: 2,000 lbs - 4,500 lbs
  • 5-Year limited warranty

Notes:

  • Average break-in period for hitch = 1,000 miles.
  • In order for the pin box's shock absorption to work correctly, make sure your pin weight is within the pin weight range.
  • To calculate correct pin weight for Gen-Y hitches, use this formula: GVWR x 0.22
  • Because the Gen-Y Hitch Executive is shorter than the Lippert 1621 or 1621 HD pin box, the clearance between your trailer and tow vehicle during turns might be reduced.

Calculated Pin Weight Executive Pin Weight Capacity Required
1,600-2,599 lbs 3,500 lbs
2,600-3,599 lbs 4,500 lbs
3,600-4,599 lbs 5,500 lbs
4,600-5,599 lbs 6,500 lbs
5,600-6,599 lbs 7,500 lbs

Built-In Shock Absorption for a Smooth Ride

Executive torsion

If you've ever towed a fifth-wheel trailer before, you're no stranger to road shock. Driving over uneven terrain can result in a rigid, bumpy ride. And uncomfortable fore-and-aft chucking can occur when you're starting and stopping. When all of the motions combine, the road shock can even potentially damage your truck or trailer.

This Gen-Y Hitch torsion pin box is designed to absorb road shock at the connection point to create a safe, smooth ride. This is thanks to the internal construction of the box, which is similar to that of a torsion axle.

Pivot points are built into the Gen-Y pin box. This allows for movement between the box, which attaches to your trailer, and the king pin, which connects to the fifth-wheel hitch in your truck bed. When your trailer bounces or jerks, the king pin will move accordingly.

torsion diagram

Built into the Gen-Y pin box are tubes with inner bars that are surrounded by rubber cords. As the king pin moves, these inner bars twist inside of the tubes, attempting to follow the pin's motion. But the rubber cords prevent the bars from twisting too far. And as each bar turns, these cords compress to absorb the rough shock. This means that any shock experienced by your truck can be absorbed before it reaches your trailer, and the shock experienced by your trailer won't get transferred to your truck.

The Gen-Y hitch has actually gotten better over the last year - I guess due to the break-in period. It makes potholes and bumps very subtle and has reduced the beating my trailer takes. One addition I made was a trailer suspension upgrade. The combination of the Gen-Y hitch and the suspension upgrade has been worth every penny.

A year in and still worth the $$$. Excellent hitch, super smooth.

by:

The quality of the pin Box is very good. I am very disappointed in the load carrying ability. The first 300 miles the indicator wa in the center of the green since then it stay's in the red. My TW is right at 3500 pounds.

Allen The Gen-Y pin box is a great upgrade! We appreciate you sharing the photos, looks really good.

by:

Package real good hard to get the stuffing around it loose need a new shipping company the one you have don’t make deliveries when they schedule them make people wait not yet taking the protection off it

by:

Fast shipping easy to install. My son does MX racing and we put 500+ miles on it every race. Definitely need some muscle to lift it but really simple and fast (took my son and I less than 15 min at the track) to install and noticed a huge difference in the ride.

by:

I haven’t used it yet but I’m excited to give a try. I’m hoping this will give me the clearance I’m looking for on my F-450. A big thank you to Sheryl H for all the help with ordering the right one and keeping me up dated all the way through delivery. She did an amazing job.

by:

This pin is a beast and I am hopeful after the break-in period it performs as advertised.

Construction and Quality of this is above average.

All was good and package was in great shape and on time!!!

by:

I think I should have done this a long time ago!
The ride is a 100% better and it's not even broken in yet.
E Trailer was great to deal with and will be using them in the future!

by:

Excelent king pin hitch, it takes 99% of the chucking out of the 5th wheel hitch.

by:

The benefits of an airbag hitch without the worry of air leaks. Drastically improves the the ride and drivability.
Thanks Gen-Y and etrailer

by:

I installed the Gen-Y hitch on my 41 foot trailer with the assistance of my son. The trailer definitely rides more smoothly from inside the truck, and we seem to have less bouncing around in the trailer. Worth the money, in my opinion.

by:

WOW Not that I am surprised. etrailer knocked it out of the park again. From the knowledgeable fast and professional help from Representative Joanne K. My buying experience felt like I was buying from a friend. But then after the sale the follow through was unmatched. The GEN Y pinbox I ordered was not in stock but became available much earlier than promised and I got an email notifying me that in was in and being processed. Another letting me know that the item had shipped. Item arrived on time and very well packaged.Excited about getting the pinbox installed I was on my own with no one around. The install went Smooth and easy. Buying from a company that really cares about their costomers is getting to be such a rarity but etrailer went over and above to make my purchase fantastic. The GEN Y pinbox is well made and the fit and Finnish is beautiful. I can't wait to take it on our next trip.

by:

etrailer is the absolute best to order from! The only thing I worst is I should have ordered the gooseneck one instead of the fifth wheel to get more bed space

by:

Just got my gen y king pin delivered today. It took 4 old men 1 hour to put on using my truck and hitch. Easy installation. I’m a full timer so next month we will see how it rides. I got the gen y because it is 3 inches lower than the rotoflex. It shouldn’t hit my tonneau rails. I’m anticipating being Abe to turn 90 degrees without the pin box hitting my side rails. And it looks tough.

by:

Simple design, very robust construction, made a vast improvement in towing ride quality.
Easy install by myself, Engine hoist, utility cart and motorcycle jack...ya I have "stuff".
I will need to lower my B&W slide about 2inches to get back to level towing. Calculator that Gen Y has for selecton is spot on , I was a bit worried as my measured tounge weight was 2700 +/- lbs 22% of GVWR (14,400) was 3168 so I ordered the 4.5k model
When hiched for the first time...indicator was in the middle of the green (perfect).
Very happy ... next Im adding shock absorbers to see if i can smooth the trailer hop a bit more.

by:

I have a GD Momentum 395m. The tongue weight can very depending on the cargo in the garage on the back end. With that said, after 5000 miles, we have a noticeable difference in the ride and bouncing with the Gen-Y hitch making it more comfortable on some of the highways that are rougher than others throughout the US.

by:

I tow with a f-450 this hitch took away the rough ride. Long term probably will save many problems. Well worth the money.

by:

The Gen-Y hitch is well built and was easy to install. I haven't towed with it yet, but My expectations are very high that it will perform as advertised.

by:

We finally got a chance to take the RV out about a 500 mile road trip at first I had my doubts it Chucked real bad right out of the gate but less than 100 miles and it felt pretty good then on the return trip it worked really well. No checking at all. getting ready to take from California to Boston could probably give it a little better review at that time but so far it’s working out great
